Shaba

Topic: Hair removal training and products from far east
Company: Shaba
City: Härkingen
Country: Switzerland
URL: https://www.shaba.ch

The Company

Shaba® is dedicated to the ancient form of largely painless hair removal from the orient and offers professional courses and training. Additionally, the corresponding sugar gel products are sold to studios all around Switzerland.

The Challenge

To rationalize business processes, Shaba startet with an other well know Business Software (B***) in Switzerland. Unfortunately, that system was inflexible to customize and therefore Shaba was not able to adopt it to its processes. With Tryton, there is an easy way to serve any needs by reasonable prices by just implementing an extension. Today, Shaba uses the following modules:

  • Party management
  • Product management
  • Sale (with custom extension)
  • Invoicing
  • ePayment
  • Accounting (book keeping)

The Solution

Tryton.cloud was chosen, because it was possible to implement an intelligent system of sale price calculation. This was possible, because Tryton grounds on a robust framework that can be used to build custom extensions. Followingly, a handy little module was built that calculates special discounts when buying many products of the same type.

The Implementation

The procedure for the implementation was straight forward. Parties and products were transferred and the layouts were adjusted to the corporate identity of Shaba. While Shaba tested the data, the developers planned and coded the price extension module as requested. Access rights were defined for the different employees and after a short training, the users were able to get started, because Tryton is easy to use.

Results

Tryton has shown its flexibility in adopting to customers needs. Shaba was highly surprised about the ease of integration. The system is fast and accessible from at home and all around the world.

For Shaba, Tryton was a good choice and they are very happy with Tryton.cloud for many years already.

Wenger Energy

Topic: Vacuum degasser and filter systems
Company: wengerenergie GmbH
City: Cham
Country: Switzerland
URL: https://www.wengerenergie.ch

The Company

The wengerenergie GmbH offers corrosion protection for heating and cooling systems built into private and industrial buildings. They clean the "heating water" and the "cooling liquid" with ultra fine filter technology and prohibit corrosion by using vacuum degassing. This is a sustainable solution for new and old buildings. No pollution of the "heating water" and 13% faster heating / cooling transfer let the heating last longer. Wengerenergie offers consulting, sales, installation and service for their systems.

The Challenge

The customer consists of four companies focused on different business aspects like dealing with components, inegrating systems and delivering services for the integrated systems. The goal was to get a flexible business software where the individual needs of the different companies can be satisfied. Important to mention also is, that all business processes from CRM to accounting shall be implemented within the business software:

  • Party management
  • Leads and opportunities
  • Quotes and invoicing with real products and services
  • Project management with all the relations to other companies involved
  • Maintenance organisation for the employees
  • Accounting (book keeping)
  • The Solution

It was decided to take tryton.cloud as platform with 99% existing modules including the special swiss accounting and efinance modules brought by tryton.cloud.

Because tryton is a flexible and reliable framework, some custom features were added. Because Wenger Energie is working in a team with other specialists, an important need was to be able to manage all the companies involved in a project. Therefore, a special module was developed that holds all parties together for a certain project, starting from the quote until the end of project management.

The implementation

As there was no existing business sofware we could start on a green field. Parties and products were imported by csv format. Accounting was set up for the 4 companies. Like often, the most timeconsuming task was layouting the forms so they correspond to the corporate idendity of the companies.

Results

Two years after implementation the big question to the employees was - are you happy with tryton.cloud? Yes - they are. So many daily problems could be made easier to handle. So many task could be automated. Live got easier and admistration overhead got smaller.
Tryton.cloud demonstrated to be a great and expandable framework. Also tricky features can be integrated without spending a lot of money.

The Implementation

We designed a migration script to import the existing database data into the new Tryton system. Parties and products were transferred and the layouts were adjusted to the corporate identity of Blue Box. All the Mac computers were installed with the tryton client and after a short training, the users were able to get started.

As time goes by, also law and banking changed in Switzerland. With Tryton, don't worry. We were able to deliver coninuous optimizations and new features like pain.001, pain.008 and camt.054 payment standards thanks to the great Trytin developer community working tightly together and sharing know-how and technolgies.

After 8 years of using tryton.cloud, the management decided in 2021 to integrate a modern webshop. As customer integration gets more and more important, the decision was to use a brand new webshop system fully integrated into tryton.cloud. The power and flexibility is amazing. Check out https://webshop.blueboxag.ch (Switzerland) and https://webshop.blueboxgmbh.de (Germany, Austria). There is even a solution to simultaneously use the shopsystem in B2B and B2C mode.

Results

The migration from boaTOOLS to Tryton has been a success. Tryton has demonstrated to be a hardened and clever framework. Also with a lot of data, it is running fast and robust.

The implementation of the purchase, stock, ale and invoicing modules has structured the business processes and significantly improved the productivity of the whole company.

Powersolutions

Topic: Servers, Networking, Business Software
Company: Powersolutions
City: Lucerne
Country: Switzerland
URL: https://powersolutions.ch

The Company

Powersolutions is the company behind tryton.cloud. We care about IT systems in business. Beside Tryton, we deploy networking and server solutions.

The Challenge

1998 Powersolutions was starting using business software with "Filemaker", later on moved to "4th Dimension" together with a partner. In 2010, homework and working-flexibility got important due to children that were born and upcoming more fluid family models, so modern cloud technologies were way we decided to go. As strategies are changing in IT very fast, the focus not only was on certain features, but on a promising and robust business software platform on which we are able to build solutions for us (and our customers). We were looking to all kind of existing software and followed the these conditions.

  • Work live balance. The software has to work from home without unhandy and slow vpn connections, so slow on-premise systems are dropped. The new software hast to be deployed in a Software-As-A-Service format.
  • Bring your own device. The software has to work on all common operating systems, so fat client systems built for windows are dropped.
  • Robustness. The software has to be robust (e.g. better as Odoo, the predecessor of Tryton), so the new modules we build run smoothly and don't spark a permanent and expensive maintenance effort.
  • Enough features and good expandability. As companies are different, a new software shall deliver a good amount of core features we then should be able to deliver to our customers by adding them as needed. Standard software like Bexio were excluded therefore.
  • No conflicts of interest. Imagine a business software belongs to a insurance company (as Bexio does) or to a state owned company (as the Swiss Postfinance App does) and you shall use it with your private data? Better not.
  • Independency. We want the software to follow our company needs, not vice versa. We do not want to submit to decisions of a software supplier. We want to be able to change our business strategy without having to exchange the business software. We also would like to avoid getting locked-in to a system. Therefore, proprietary systems are excluded.
  • Therefore open-source is an idea to go. The software should have a quality-focused and independent developer community that is constantly developing new exciting modules that can be reused with little effort. Consequently, some smaller open-source are dropped.
  • Real open-source. A surprise for us was, that open-source not necessarily means "free". Also Odoo got in trouble, because there is a company behind and it is just told to be open-source as it only really works well with an enterprise contract and so there is not much difference to all the other proprietary systems. So we are looking for real open-source business software based on a GNU General Public License.
  • Reliability. The modules have to be of high developing quality and the framework hast to be well structured, because when adding our own modules, we don't want to have to adopt our programming to core that gets modified all the time. Also here, the focus is not on "as lot features as possible", but "robust modules that have a clear concept behind". So the famous Odoo was dropped definitively. Also the perl based "SQL Ledger" project was excluded, because programming was very "traditional" and contributions are de facto not possible, because it is a monolithic system that does not think "module-oriented" and therefore cannot link own code and core code.

The Solution

Finally, the Tryton framework was chosen and we decided to host the SAAS infrastructure in Switzerland as of legal conditions. The funny thing is we intuitively followed ISO 25010, a quality standard for software.

The Implementation in 2012

As some financial features were missing, we added them through a new Tryton module. We also added some new features on worktime recording and project invoicing and started over. We also won a lot of new customers for tryton.cloud (as we called the new SAAS solution) and could migrate customers of the preceding system.

As we could see very fast, we manage to serve a lot of new customer needs. We see the robustness and flexibility of Tryton in real life and we are happy we decided the right way. We are also happy to have a large community we can evaluate new ideas and technologies with.

On the one hand it bewared us on developing in wrong directions and on the other hand we could help pushing core development steps further.

Continuous Development

As we got more and more tryton.cloud customers, interesting feature requests turned up. Other software suppliers might fear individual ideas and requests, but we love them.

  • Creative ideas of customers resulted in unique features (e.g. a discount system across multiple product variants).

  • Some customer use Tryton features in their way and we had to extend the core features (e.g. price lists for easier product selection for sales staff).

  • Also daily features for specific industries were implemented (e.g. role assignment for sales and project management).

  • Other customers decided to push core features in general (e.g. extended evaluation and statistics).

  • During the years, regulations and financial technologies changed in the countries. So we had to adopt modules to it (e.g. new qr payment slips in Switzerland).

  • It also happened, that customers of ours suddenly expanded to other countries. So we had to satisfy sudden functional needs (e.g. DATEV for a Swiss company expanding to Germany).

  • Also great fun are developments together with the core team. This is a good idea, if we intend to build new individual features based on core services (e.g. generic modules for individual webshop integrations).

  • Beside all of that, we'd like to push forward Tryton in general. We rarely are the first with new ideas, but often the one pushing an idea to productivity is missing. So we start designing and developing new ideas with other community members with the aim to implement them later on (e.g. point of sale modules)

  • What we couldn't do up to now is building new verticals (a special solution for a dedicated type of customer) together with such a customer. There are many ideas already and technology is ready. We'd just need an interested customer to start with.

Upgrades Work Well

We started with Tryton version 2.8, moved to 3.4, then 4.0 and further on to 5.0. Also here, one can see that the core team is "thinking before they type" and profit of the clearly and well structured framework. Updates run through well and our own modules can be adopted to new versions easily (on the contrary to hassles with other well known software).

Are we happy?

Yes, after our first decade of Tryton, we are still very happy and enjoy going on with Tryton. We managed to automate and rationalize many processes in our company, saving a huge amount of annoying administration work and doubled our financial productivity. It was far worth investing the time and money in Tryton.

We hope to bring joy and happiness to even more tryton.cloud users throughout the next years and we are looking forward to many more success stories to be published here.
